What Our Customers Are Saying
***NOTE: Reservations ARE currently required due to social distancing (as of August 5, 2021), to limit the number of people in the small building at one time. Masks are welcomed but not required. It's pretty much impossible to stay 6 feet away from other people in the small space. But good news! They will soon be expanding to a larger space a few blocks away, and opening a second location! I've been to Scales and Tails around a dozen times over the past 8 years or so, with my niece who loves reptiles but is not allowed to own one. I learn something new every time I go. The workers are all friendly, knowledgeable, and informative, and seem to really care about the animals' welfare. If you want to, you may be allowed to hold or touch a variety of animals, most often a variety of snakes and turtles, and sometimes a lizard and/or a tarantula. But they don't pressure anyone who doesn't want to touch. They teach you how to safely touch or hold the animals, so both you and the animals will be safe. They also teach you which animals you SHOULDN'T touch, and WHY you shouldn't touch them (like the alligator snapping turtle that can bite through bone as easily as butter, or various creatures with venom). I'm excited to see their expanded new space later this year.

Cheap fee, so fun! They let you get up close and personal with the animals, and it's so cool! They also shared a lot of cool facts and say you can see/hold different stuff each time you go. My favorite part was holding the reticulating python. Definitely worth visiting!!!

Scales and Tails is a lot of fun and highly educational. The employees are enthusiastic, know a ton about the animals, and are happy to answer questions. Our tour included holding snakes, safely interacting with a python per employee instructions and supervision, and saw them wrangle a gator. If an animal ever showed a stress behavior, the employee would note it, point it out for guest education, and immediately put it back. Respect for the animals is great to see and the employees don't hide behaviors for appearances. I strongly recommend this location for anyone interested in reptiles. Conflict of Interest: I am friends with one of the employees.
