Our mission is to provide safe, educational and interactive shows and tours to teach people about reptiles and birds in order to foster a desire to learn about science, protect our ecosystems, and promote conservation.



About Us

Scales and Tails Utah is a family-run reptile and bird educational and entertainment company. We have been providing safe, interactive, and educational presentations since 2004. Scales and Tails was started by Owner and Founder, Shane Richins. Shane has always had a special place in his heart for animals, but the instigator was a pet green iguana named Horse. Horse went everywhere with Shane. As Shane got older and was looking to make a mark in society, he and his then girlfriend, Mandi, met Danny Conner, of Danny Conner’s Reptile Adventures, at the Utah State Fair. She encouraged Shane to try his hand at starting a business where he could educate the public about these amazing and often misunderstood creatures. Several years later, he met his wife, Rindy, who helped launch him from a home business doing small traveling shows to an educational facility and retail shop. We have grown from doing small birthday parties, to doing large fairs, corporate events, school assemblies, and community outreach.

Located at 4944 W 6200 S, Kearns, UT 84118, just to the right of Big Daddy’s Pizza.

We open our showroom and retail shop up to the public Monday – Saturday to see and touch some of the coolest reptiles on the planet!! Come in for a behind-the-scenes tour of our travel company! You’ll get to see many of the animal stars we use in our performances!

We are primarily a travel show and therefore have limited public hours and do not promise that every animal will be in the shop during public hours.

How are you handling Covid-19?

We are following all CDC guidelines for wearing masks and group gatherings. Our public-facing staff has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

What is included?

Please see our available packages for what is included in each party.

How many people can we have at the party?

We have done parties for groups as small as one to as large as 1,000 and more! We have found that larger groups do exceptionally well because the excitement of the group helps create an even more exciting party. The party price is based on the package you choose not on the number of people in attendance.

Where can we have our party?

We will bring our show to whatever location you choose as long as the temperatures are between 70-95 °F or can be temporarily brought to those temperatures. (Inside homes, on the lawn, in a park, at a community house, etc.) If a show is done outside, we will need shade for the animals. We also have a small party room at our facilty for rent.

What pets make good kid pets?

Bearded Dragon lizard, Blue Tongue Skink, Leopard Geckos, Ball Pythons, Dumeril Boas, Milk Snake, Box Turtles, Russian Tortoises, Greek Tortoises. (This is just a small sample of good kid pets, the list is not limited to what is listed here.)
